9. Internal audio connectors (4 pin CD1, AUX1) These connectors allow you to receive stereo audio input from sound sources such as a CD-ROM, TV tuner or MPEG card.

11. Digital audio connector (6-1 pin SPDIF1) This connector is for an optional S/PDIF audio module that allows digital instead of analog sound input and output. The S/PDIF port module is purchased separately.

When you input sound for S/PDIF IN, the LINE_OUT outputs the sound. Serial connector (10-1 pin COM2) This connector accommodates a second serial port using an optional serial port module. Connect the module cable plug to this connector, then install the module into a slot opening at the back of the system chassis.

System Power LED (3-1 pin PLED) This connector is for the system power LED in the chassis front panel. The system power LED lights up when you turn on the system power.

Keyboard Lock (2-1 pin KEYLOCK) This connector is for the chassis-mounted switch that allows the use of the keyboard lock feature.

System Warning Speaker (4-pin SPEAKER) This connector is for the chassis-mounted speaker that allows you to hear system beeps and warnings.

System Management Interrupt (2-pin SMI) This connector allows switching to suspend mode, or "Green" mode. While is green mode, the system activity is instantly decreased to save power and to expand the life of certain system components.

Reset Switch (2-pin RESET) This connector is for the chassis-mounted reset switch used for rebooting the system without turning off the power switch.

ATX Power Switch / Soft-Off Switch (2-pin PWR) This connector is for the system power switch located in the chassis front panel. Pressing the power switch turns the system between ON and SLEEP, or ON and SOFT OFF, depending on the BIOS or OS settings. When the system is on, pressing the power switch for more than 4 seconds turns the system off.

Hard Disk Activity (2-pin IDE LED) This connector is for the hard disk drive activity LED. The read or write activities of any primary or secondary IDE device cause the hard disk drive activity LED to light up.

Managing and updating your BIOS
The following utilities allow you to manage and update the motherboard Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) setup. AFUDOS (Updates the BIOS in DOS mode using a bootable floppy disk. ) 2. See Chapter 3 for details. ) Refer to the corresponding section for each utility.
Important notes
· It is recommended that you save a copy of the original motherboard BIOS file to a bootable floppy disk in case you need to restore the BIOS in the future. Copy the original motherboard BIOS using the AFUDOS or the ASUS Update utilities. Use this file only when you do not have a copy of the original motherboard BIOS file in a floppy disk. Visit the ASUS website and download the latest BIOS file for this motherboard using the ASUS Update utility.

2. 1. 1 Creating a bootable floppy disk
1. From your Windows desktop, click on Start, point to Settings, then click on Control Panel. [. . . ] To change the user password, follow the same steps as in setting a user password.
Clear User Password
Select this item if you wish to clear the user password.

When set to [Setup], BIOS checks for user password when accessing the Setup utility. When set to [Always], BIOS checks for user password both when accessing Setup and booting the system. Configuration options: [Setup] [Always]

When you have made all of your selections from the various menus in the Setup program, save your changes and exit Setup. Select Exit from the menu bar to display the following menu.
